The lesson provided a great opportunity for students to be involved in a hands-on experiment in which students make their own model of an ear drum. They have to work cooperatively with their peers and follow directions in order to make an accurate ear drum. Students responded very well throughout …show more content…
One pro is the use of Inquiry-based components. Inquiry is the basic building block for science education for elementary schools. The teacher was able to motivate her children and raise student interest in sound waves and ear drum. This modeled the engage phase out of the five “E” phases. She provided them the opportunity for her students to participate in an experiment. She often referred to them as scientist while the explored. This was a great way to get them excited to conduct the experiment. They were divided into groups of six. The structure of the experiment helped her students observe how sound travels in the inner ear, ear drum. This represent the exploration phase out of the five “E”. Before they started the experiment they had a small discussion explaining how sound waves moved. This symbolizes the explanation phase out of the five. The teacher explained how sound travels using and defining key words such as, ear drum, inner ear, outer ear, and ear canal. At the end of the experiment she evaluated their comprehension of the topic. This was the evaluation phase of the five
