My students work towards increasing their academic skills which can be intertwined with learning social, gross motor, fine motor, self help, and vocational skills. I have received new students into my classroom with goals that are set far above the child 's abilities. An example of a goal that was not practical was that within one year the student would read 1st grade level words. This student could not identify her first name from a field of two.
