Incident Command System is a top down management approach. The incident commander makes the decisions and the individuals below the incident command follow their directives. Even though information is openly shared through the Incident Command System, obedience is required to be followed in the top to bottom managing when directing personnel and resources on a scene. For the Incident Command System to be effective, all participants must be dedicated to following the command and control approach. The Incident Command System uses a broad spectrum of authoritative features and principles. One of the key features is the use of everyday language and wording. Using allows common terminology and clear text allows for multiple agencies or jurisdictions to communicate effectively without confusion.
