Regardless of my positions of Director of Special Services, principal and superintendent, my background of working with special education programs is extensive. My strong belief in providing the very best educational experience for all learners stems in part of being a parent of a child with an IEP. Our charge of providing a thorough and efficient education dictates both morally and ethically that we do not deprive any learner of the experiences that others may have when achieving academically and socially. Our one goal was to have 100% of our third-grade students read on-level before moving into fourth grade. Accelerated Reading and Star Reading programs, along with certifying 25% of our teaching staff in Wilson Reading, were employed with full efficacy. Within three years, we nearly reached our goal with 96% of our third graders, including special education students, were reading on-level by the end of the year.
