Eucharistic Passages in Adversus Haereses
In this section, I will analyze the Eucharistic passages in AH. I will evaluate each passage in their context to draw out Irenaeus’s theology of the Eucharist. I will engage with the Latin, Greek, and French editions to provide the best translation of the text in order to accurately present the text.

In this section, I will demonstrate that there is an established practice concerning the Eucharist. The Gnostics celebrate the Eucharist, use similar terms concerning the Eucharist, but their practice does not align with the Catholic understanding of the Eucharist. This section goes to show that there is a tradition that has been established prior to Irenaeus concerning the celebration of the Eucharist and that Irenaeus rejects any practices of the Eucharist that are not aligned with tradition. …show more content…
In one sense, Irenaeus’s theology of the Eucharist is rooted in Scripture, i. e. tradition. This section goes support the thesis that the incarnation narrative within his polemical context causes him to believe that the elements are the body and blood of Christ.
