Month ago, I had a new patient “Z.J” who is a 17 years old female, Syrian immigrant. The patient has medical history of global developmental delay and iron decency anemia. Also, during her follow up visit 3 months ago, she complained of severe intermitted dental pain to the point she refused to open her mouth or let anyone examine her. Otherwise, she has no known allergies, previous hospitalization or surgical history. When we accepted Z.J. referral in November her labs indicated Hbg of 9.6, Iron of 16, but she was asymptomatic. The fellow from the dental team indicated that their case was forwarded to the school of dentistry clinic since the surgery will not be covered by the insurance. The appointment was not booked and her file doesn’t indicate any surgical appointment. In addition, the mother is not an English speaker and she went to school until 7th grade. So she was not able to contact the hematology clinic or even comebrhenic the importance of requesting an early
