Introduction:
IBS is a persistent gastrointestinal condition. IBS is often associated with the name, Spastic Colon. (emedicinehealth, 2016). This syndrome causes excessive discomfort in individuals. IBS consists of a group of symptoms which consistently occurs for longer than six months. (WebMD, 2014).
Motivation:
Irritable Bowel Syndrome is a condition which affects many individuals negatively if these individuals do not understand their condition. IBS does alter one’s lifestyle due to its symptoms. I have been diagnosed with IBS, thus allowing this project to mean something to me and allows me to find a satisfactory diet in order to keep symptoms under control.

Individuals who suffer from stressful time periods will have an increase in their IBS symptoms.
Many individuals are intolerant to the foods they consume, which causes discomfort.
As a proven fact, women are more likely to suffer from IBS and this is due to fluctuation levels of hormones found in women. This can be best seen during menstrual periods.
Lastly, other illnesses can provoke the severity of IBS symptoms such as a gastrointestinal flu.
IBS testing is an obscure type of diagnostic testing as it consists of the removal of other possibilities of illnesses, thus leading to an end result of the only possibility of it being Irritable Bowel Syndrome. In other words, diagnosis of IBS is usually based on negative results of other tests since no exact procedural test exists for IBS.
IBS and Treatment
IBS is not life-threatening but does cause an individual who is suffering from it to alter their lifestyle.
