Is global warming a man-made catastrophe or a natural cycle? Scientists have usually agreed on the fact that the earth has elevated in temperature over the past 20,000 years from the last the last major ice event, but the true controversy comes from when they try to figure out why the warming is happening.
There are two major thoughts on why this is occurring
• Increasing the atmospheric concentration of the gas Carbon Dioxide (CO2). This is usually done by human’s industrial activities that emit this gas in the air causing it to trap long wave radiation reflected from the earth surface increasing the heat that is in the atmosphere. This is the man made global warming.
• The other form is that the earths solar radiation and earths …show more content…
The different sources out there will indicate that the different cycles will vary in intensities over the past 2,000,000 years ranging from about 30 years to 100,000 years in length.
The recurring phenomenon that is changes in the cycles for global warming has been around all throughout the history of geological earth. There are many geologists that believe that the way to find out whether global warming is a man-made issue or something that the natural cycle is producing is to compare the different times that this has happened in the past with the current times and see what it is that is creating the issues in both …show more content…
With respect to CO2 temperature correlations, the main issue that what said to cause the man-made global warming theory, the atmospheric CO2 concentration that was in the air was approximately 7,000 parts per million (ppm) about 550,000,000 years ago, while today there is about 20 times less that with there being 370 ppm. The average estimated global temperature for that time was about 220 C, about 100 C higher than the current average. The data indicates that even though the CO2 concentrations have declined from that average, that they still stayed steady until around 450 million years ago. There have also been similar glaciation events that occurred about 360,000,000 years ago and around 275,000,000 years ago with the CO2 concentrations and the temperatures continuing to decline to about 350 ppm and to about 220 C, which is similar to the modern
