“Japans Systems of Religion and Politics over the Years” The country that I have selected to complete my research paper on is what was once known as the isolated country of Japan. Today although Japan’s classical roots can still be seen, it is mostly seen as a country that has been influenced with ideas, customs, practices, etc., and characteristic of the western U.S. country through various incidents. Paragraph 1: The history of Japan and its governmental and religious history is one that began to develop very slowly for them. Japans development seemed to take place a lot slower that other countries. The first accounts of change for Japan took place between 206 and 700 A.D. In 200 A.D the first steps toward trade were made with China, but there was a big difference between the two countries when it came to trade negotiations. This time period for the Japanese was called the Yayoi and the Yamato period. The people of Japan were a tribal society and Yayoi was the name of one of the major tribes. In addition, the form of Buddhism was introduced to Japan by Korea. Japan didn’t except the form of religion right away. In fact it took years. Japans original religion was “Shinto.” Social change in Japan was due to the conflicts that developed over the acceptance of Buddhism between Yamato family and the imperial Shintoist (Nakatomi). It was believed that “the transmission of Buddhist doctrine in Japan, allowed for the absorption of Chinese civilization for Korea.” (Hall 38) The Yamato period is when Japan began to imitate Mainland China.
