Constantly embarrassed that I didn't have a body like all the other kids my age I automatically would hunch over to hide my insecurities. This followed me a long time, and thankfully over time I have become more confident in who I am. However, I still struggle with it because of that muscle memory situation, because that sensation shoulders rolled over neck extended feeling so natural I am continuously and subconsciously in bad alignment. That being said, following the alignment sessions performed this semester, that breath of air sensation referred to earlier, is found when your body is put into proper alignment. This semester we listened to a mediation circuit by Deepak Chopra, the messages explored all kinds of topics from love and acceptance to things like opening your heart chakra. This meditation really provided me with a calm and relaxing outlet and strangely enough, each meditation topic came at the right time. Specially I can think back to a couple days where I was doubting my abilities greatly and was really questioning if I was meant to be here, and that same day we learned about self acceptance and being enough just the way we are. With being in such a subjective field, we as performers are constantly second guessing our abilities, and meditation has become something of a helpful tool to use whenever I start to feel overwhelmed. Something that we have done a few times in class but more specifically in ‘A Chorus Line’ was standing in a circle holding hands, and taking 4 deep breaths. The idea of planting tree roots in the ground, and coming into the room and your body really gets you ready for the class or show and the rest of your day. Something really great about this class as a whole, is it prepares you for the rest of your day, with spending forty-five minutes on awakening your body, provides you with that organic energy and enthusiasm to make it through the rest of the
