In the beginning of the story, recovering from the burn Jeannette finds herself in the hospital. This had to be significant in the sense that, it gave her a sense of normalcy. It is important because all she ever knew was life within the confines of her parents instability, poverty and squalor. Jeannette received a comfort she had not known before. The hospital was clean and shiny…..everyone spoke in polite, calm voices.... I wasn 't used to quiet and order. I also liked that I had my own room….a TV. That was the thing about the hospital.
