In the book Journey of the Sparrows, the character Maria, who is the narrator, has many flashbacks from when she lived in Mexico. She explains the breathtaking sunsets and the colorful flowers that surrounded her hometown farmland. She also remembers her family, altogether at one time and watching the sun go down and the colorful sky. She opens up about how she used to love to play on her swing, hang on a tree, and climb up so high that it was almost as if she could touch the sky.
