Mahatma Gandhi is one that demonstrates the idea of speech being powerful. He used the power of diction to gain India’s independence, and did this by a series of non-violent protests and public speeches. His words were so dominant, that many civilians were convinced to join Gandhi’s movement, which soon lead to the formation of the Natal Indian Congress in 1894 which was used to fight discrimination in India. Gandhi is seen using influential words when he says, “Be the change you want to see in the world” (Gandhi). This quote illustrates the convincing manner of words, because these words convinced many people that India should have it’s Independence from Britain. As seen, instead of fighting and going to war, Mahatma Gandhi simply used words to express his feelings, which was effective. Once again, demonstrating the potential of words.
In the end, throughout Mark Antony’s speech in Julius Caesar’s funeral and in real life, in people such as Mahatma Gandhi, words are seen as both powerful and convincing. These two figures used persuasive and robust words and as a result convinced thousands of people to agree with their opinions.
