One good way to inspect the “Dissoi Logoi” a Greek philosophical exposition is to approach it from multiple perspectives. Different value systems tend to be viewed as acceptable in one light and as unjust, in different light. Therefore, one person may view a situation in one way, while another may have a completely different outlook on the same situation and even label that situation differently. In short King’s letter from that jail cell was somewhat a manifesto that launched the civil rights movement. In a time when there was an aggression towards the African American population due to racial hostility King’s letter promoted a passive aggressive stance towards equality and civil rights. For instance, prior to the arrest of King, police commissioner Connor could not have foreseen the outcome of his unneeded arrest (web). Likewise, King had no concept that the letters he was writing to his oppressors would have been the spark needed to ignite the civil rights movement. This was the perfect storm of events when it came time for the nation to embrace everyone being equal. Setting the stage for many other things that came after and continues to emerge today. Then we see subsequently these actions led King to the forefront of the Civil Rights movement, yet in a twist of fate the stance he took for a culture of so many eventually led to his assassination. King and his incarceration was the prime example of adapting to and taking advantage of the situation, they, the people of the nation never predicted the events that would take place after Kings unduly arrest that ended up becoming a bridge that led to opening up the minds and perceptions of the people of this nation.
