Konrad Adenauer’s one goal he hoped to achieve most as
Chancellor of Germany consisted of creating a solid and democratic state in
West Germany (“Anna Gill”). Adenauer was born on January 5, 1876 in
Cologne, Germany. Konrad was the baby in his family of three children, a
mother, and a father. His family was Roman Catholic and didn’t make a lot of
money even with his dad being a lawyer. Despite his family’s financial
struggles, Konrad Adenauer succeeded through all and ended up studying at
universities in Freiburg, Munich. After finishing studying at universities he

and his son were sent to prison camps for being protestors of the Nazis, or
anti-Nazis (“Konrad Adenauer and The Christian Democratic Union In West
Germany”). Adenauer became chairman of the new party, the German
Christian Democratic Union, for the whole of West Germany. In the first
general held elections under the new leader, his party and their regular ally
won 139 of the 402 seats in the Bundestag. Adenauer worked to create a
new form of government, and to get it approved. His work paid off and
September 15, 1949 Bundestag granted him the gift to be Germany’s first
chancellor after World War II. Adenauer was the first Chancellor of the
Federal Republic of Germany. Konrad was 73 years old when elected.
