Dreams. What are dreams? My poems was written in the Harlem Renaissance in 1926. It was written by an African-American poet/writer named Langsten Hughes. He was born on Feb 1, 1902 in Joplin, Missouri. His parents divorced when he was young and his grandmother raised him after the divorce. His father moved to Mexico. Hughes traveled the world plenty of times. He attended college in Colombia University in New York, and finished his education in Lincoln University in Pennsylvania. He won a gold medal for his first novel “not with out laughter.” He was a great influence to the young aged, middle aged, and old aged. He passed away on May 22, 1967 due to prostate cancer. He was a great influence and the reason Im writing about him is that one of his poems affected me in a way that motivated me to be the best I can. His way of writing is unique the way he uses literary devices to make the poem is absolutely great. For example he uses Simile, Personification, and Metaphore.

its just really great that all the time and effort Hughes had to do being an African-American author. His struggle was big but through out his writing he expressed him self. The literary devices he used were a great set up and it really brought out the meaning of the poem. simile, personification, and metaphore. They really did a great job and expressed lots of meaning into the poem. and it brought out the message it was giving to the readers. It was trying to bring out the idea that dreams shouldn’t be let go and that n matter what obsitcal you should always keep striving for your dream even though tough times are happing that for those times go by
