Through reading you can feel embraced or connected by the words of expression within the poem. For instance, when reading “But I love your feet only because they walked upon the earth and upon the wing and upon the waters, until they found me,” I can relate these words as to when reminiscing of the moment that I met my partner. Rhymes are usually used at the end of the lines in ballads, sonnets and rhyming couplets. However, in the present more free verses are utilized to give the poet more freedom to their thoughts. Additionally, strophes, stanzas, and verses usually structure poems. Rhetorical techniques are often utilized in poems as well; such as metaphors, similes, persona, allusion, hyperbole among others2.
Several poets seemed to may have lived multiple lives, due to the large variety of poems that they wrote; such as Neruda. He once said “ I was constantly fingering through his own experience in language, putting himself into words, questioning himself, discovering himself, creating himself” – and to me that’s what poetry does.
