My Husband I visited the Latin American Art Museum in Long Beach, California on Sunday, October 16,2016. We had never visited this museum before, and we had a good time. The building which houses the Latin American Art Museum had been many things prior to what its currently now, and with many re-models the inside still in a way reflects the past. The building dates from 1910 where it was originally Balboa studios which was the first Hollywood style movie studio! I thought that to be really interesting. As Sothern California grew, Balboa studios turned into The Hippodrome skating rink in 1926 and in 1985 it was turned into a Medi-care based clinic, and then in 1996 it was turned into the Latin American Art Museum. So, over the years its been transformed into different purposes to serve the comminutes, from entertainment, to medical treatment for the elderly and poor and for culture and diversity. All during all this time, the teak wood floor stayed the same.

Though, I felt they could add more to it. I felt there wasn’t enough art and there weren’t enough showcases for music and for perhaps fashion and even a more education explanation of Dia De La Muertos. There wasn’t much about it, I feel like the people who might attend would already have a pre-conceived idea on what it was about, but from a person who didn’t really know much about it, I had to do most of my research on Wikipedia. There was one docent, but he was too busy telling people not to touch the exhibit, which I thought was weird because who goes to a museum and starts touching the things on display?
