These cultural identities are Danita’s gender, age, ethnicity, and cultural background. Due to the evaluator being male and from a different ethnic background, the evaluator may feel that there may be many ethical dilemmas that can occur. According to Lu et al. (2016) cultural differences play a big part in which the client’s attitudes, beliefs and values may cause the evaluators attitudes, beliefs and values to clash. This clash can cause misdiagnoses and the inability to formulate a proper therapeutic relationship (Lu et al, 2016).
Another ethical dilemma when dealing with cultural diversity, is that the evaluator can often times become bias in the way they interpret the results of any assessment tools being used during the clinical interview. This may also cause misconception and misdiagnosis.
Knowing the problem, the evaluator must consider his boundaries of competent. According to the APA Ethics Code (2010), a psychologist must provide services within the boundaries of their competence. The evaluator must make sure that he is qualified to treat this case.
