Skill Description: The motor skill involves two teams hitting a volleyball back and forth over a net without letting the ball hit the floor. Which ever team lets the ball hit the floor loses the point. Games are to 25 points, and only three touches on the ball are allowed per side before it has to be sent over the net. This game is worthy of teaching fourth graders because it teaches them about teamwork, quick thinking, communication, cooperation, etc. Teamwork and cooperation correlate with volleyball because in order to play the game you must play as a team; one person cannot win the game, therefore cooperation is needed. Quick thinking and decision making is also very important in the game because a player only has a …show more content…
16-24 mins: Fitness Activity: Students will be asked to split up into their partners from the day before and grab a ball. One student will be on one side of the net serving, while the other student is on the opposite side shagging their partners ball. The goal is to have each student practice hitting the ball over the net. After four minutes, the partners will switch sides and roles and continue serving for the last four minutes.
25-34 mins: Closing Activity: the closing activity will be playing a game of volleyball. Of course, this will be a modified version of volleyball to make it easier on the students. There will be an unlimited amount of hits allowed, and two chances at serving, (i.e. if a student misses their first serve they are given another chance to get the ball over the net), and we will not keep score. This game will allow the students to put their newly learned skills to practice and have a chance to showcase them in a “game” setting.

Concerns/Problems:
My first concern would be that the ball is too hard to hit and that the students don’t have the strength yet to get the ball over the net. To fix this issue, the “volleyballs” that the students will be using are beach balls. Beach balls are light weight and easier to hit
My second concern would be that the volleyball net would be too high for the students. In order to accompany their needs, I would use badminton nets instead because they are lower. So, when I refer to “volleyball nets” I am actually referring to the badminton nets. This should ease up the game for the students, and allow for several nets to be put up in the gym (three nets is my goal).
My last concern is that the ball may hit the floor too often still because these students are beginners. To fix this issue, I would allow ten players on each side instead of just six. Since this may cause confusion when rotating comes into play, I will instruct when everyone should rotate so I am able to direct students where to go, and whose turn it is to sit
