My strong enthusiasm for the appointment of Dr. Kaylor stems first from her exceptional research accomplishments, and second from my personal impressions of her during our interactions at the biennial FASEB Scientific Research Conference on the Biology and Chemistry of Vision. Dr. Kaylor and I share common scientific interest in the fundamental chemical processes that govern the perception of light. This is the same topic on which I …show more content…
Kaylor’s scientific achievements clearly demonstrates that she is an exceptionally talented, hard-working researcher who, in a relatively short period of time, became a leader in the field of vision research. Scientists can be classified into two categories: those on the frontier of discovery capable of opening new research avenues, and those who follow. Without doubt, Dr. Kaylor belongs to the first group. Her discoveries have converted the hypothetical concept of the cone-specific visual cycle into a testable hypothesis that if confirmed will revolutionize our thinking about cone physiology.
My personal interactions with Dr. Kaylor have been equally impressive. She is mature, independent in judgment, and a solid thinker, who is eager and fully capable of running her own research program. I have always found her to be enthusiastic about her work, collegial, generous with her knowledge, and enjoyable to talk with. She is kind and soft-spoken but always well worth listening to. I am confident that she will be an excellent colleague and her maturity and level-headedness will continue serving the Department …show more content…
I hope that the Promotion Committee Members will take this opportunity to add such an established and successful young researcher with a bright future to their
