The Life Balance Inventory (n.d.), shows that eating nutritiously is important to my client Sasha, 27. However, she is not very satisfied with her desire to eat healthy and how much she actually does it. The quality of food that she eats is important to her and she avoids eating fried foods and at fast food restaurants. (Health Assessment Quiz, n.d.) Sasha also tries to incorporate whole grains into her diet (Holistic Lifestyle Questionnaire, n.d.). The areas of nutrition that she does not currently practice are incorporating fruits and vegetables into her daily diet. She scored a 36 out of 100 on the Holistic Lifestyle Questionnaire (n.d.). Based on the Life balance Inventory (n.d.), exercise is something that is important to her. However, she marked on the Holistic Lifestyle Questionnaire (n.d) that she does not engage in sweat producing physical activity for 20 – 30 minutes at least three times a week. She did mark that walking is her favorite exercise and she occasionally tries to walk as a means of transportation whenever possible. Besides walking the type of physical activity that she may occasionally participate in includes stretching, aerobic activity, and strength training. The article, “Yoga: A complementary health approach,” by Natalie McGill discusses what yoga is and what areas it works on. It states that yoga works on the mind and the whole body including the heart and lungs, through the incorporation of different poses, controlled breathing, and meditation. The article specifies that anyone can practice yoga. It is not something that is only for young women, which may be often seen in the media. People of all ages and genders practice yoga for many different reasons which may include stress relief, pain management, and a variety of health conditions. The article does, however, discuss different precautions of yoga. Some yoga poses may foster certain health risks to people with a specific health conditions. The author discusses the importance of notifying your physician before engaging in yoga and learning the correct way to carry out poses and breathing techniques from a certified instructor. Finding a beginners’ class would be beneficial for someone new to yoga. There are many types of yoga. Some may be too fast paced, or complex for beginners. There are also different types of yoga poses and someone with medical problems or just beginning will be provided with safety tips and accommodations if needed. The article also states that before attempting any poses, one should wear clothes that stretch and not wearing socks will help with balance. Adequate space, patience, and a quiet area is also
