Something about Grendles mother I thought was interesting was how she stolen back Grendle's claw and killed Hrothgar's best friend. i belive she did this to avenge her sons death and get back at Beowulf for killing her son. I also believe that the mother took the claw back because she probably felt that beowulf only had Grendles claw so he could always have it to tell the story of how he killed her son.
