Pacing and Repetition
Long term memory only becomes such if regularly accessed (we remember remembering). As such, periodically reviewing the notes and quiz list is vital to internalizing any information.
Controlling the Environment.
When I remember facts, things like feelings, location, page numbers, etc., often become part of that memory. Consequently, by studying in the same location and condition as the test, they all provide a mnemonic clue for recall. An additional observation is that I’m often at my brightest in the morning, so it makes sense to both study and take the tests at the same time of day.
Balancing time and Resources
Fulfilling / clearing my schedule of commitments prior to the exam is critical. Not only does it free up time, it also reduces distractions. A computer analogy would be killing or rescheduling processes in preparation for peak times.
