I believe that behavioral factors contribute to the basis of living a long, active, and productive life. Possession of healthy behavioral skill is the determinate of longevity and quality of life of older people. Essential behavioral factors of longevity include the followings: physical activity, nutrition, coping skills, cognitive function, personal habits, and mental health. Having daily routine physical activities help individual build personal healthy behaviors to maintain an active lifestyle in order to stay in good physical health. Good physical activity enables individual to be responsible and accountable for their own health and fitness. Consuming nutritious foods allow functioning of mental and physical health of the body to perform properly. In contrast, a person with low level of physical activity and poor eating habits are more prone to diseases and health complications, which may interfere with longevity and quality of life. Having a good coping skills allow individual to handle stress and deal with crisis in a healthy manner. Lastly, other determination of long-term life expectancy and quality of life includes abstinence of alcohol consumptions, substance abuse, and unprotected sexual activities. Based on a previous 2009 research by Yunhwan Lee, people aged 65 and older with healthy behaviors, such as physical activity, non-smoking, vegetable consumption, and social activity are associated with sustain cognitive function in the later stage of life. (Pascucci, Chu, and Leasure 2012). Physical health is one of the main objectives for quality of life for older population. Furthermore, application of health promotion behaviors among older adults, such as exercise can help prevent the onset of diabetes mellitus, colon cancer, heart disease, and stroke (Pascucci et al. 2012). Healthy behaviors of older adults have significant contributing factor towards become an oldest-old. The research suggests that healthy responsibility and behaviors will allow individuals to have an active, harmonious, and fulfilling lives; which includes physical activity, nutrition, spiritual growth, interpersonal relationship, intellectual activity, and stress management. It’s the responsibility of older adults to take part in their own health and self-care by participating in health screenings, receiving annual physical examinations and immunization, taking part in daily exercises, performing activities of daily livings, consuming nutritious foods, learning new skills, and engaging in social activities (Pascucci et al. 2012).
