To understand the decision making process in a school setting one must examine the classical models. The Maier Model, which talks about how, a decision is first and foremost of high quality and secondly it addresses if team members will support and most importantly accept it. When looking at this theory in depth we see that it is critical for the team members and stakeholders to accept and implement the decisions. If the school principal is doing everything he or she could but does not have the staffs commitment then he or she will have a difficult task in front of them. This could be really hard if a teacher has been in the school for a long time and there is a new school principal who would like change. At Lowrey Middle School right now I feel there is an issue when coming to decision-making in certain aspects including the situation I mentioned above. There are some teachers that do not necessary want change or are willing to take ideas because they have been doing things for a certain way for so long. There are many different categories to look at to be able to see if the organization is moving in the right direction and that it is a learning community. In the executive summary it is said,” Leadership is designed in a fashion that promotes and encourages a cohesive decision- making learning community.”(Younes 2013) It is also important that the community is supportive and believes in the school. It will increase the positivity of the environment day in and day out. In the school I am at there are many different stakeholders that need to be involved to help facilitate learning community including the staff, students, administration, parents and the community. Staff and administration work together to come up with important goals and to help bring better ideas because each one person has a certain set of way. Furthermore there is a sense of comfort between different all stakeholders. There is also a sense of community involved in the school site, which includes neighborhood outreach and recommendations of former parents and neighbors. In a learning community there is also a sense of safety between different stakeholders in the school setting. At Lowrey Middle School for the most part there is a sense of appreciation and support for every person on the spectrum. This helps with building a learning community and a respectful environment for all stakeholders and I
