Luke was a physician, which explains his detailed writing, he was also a travel companion of Paul. It was written between 60 CE to 180 CE. Acts was addressed to Theophilus, and it is for him as well as the Gentiles and the Jews. The theme of Acts is the origin of the outreach of the church, because Luke writes how the church is being spread. Acts is the only New Testament book that has been classified as history. Luke used numerous sources and traditions that shaped a coherent, chronologically sequential account of events covering around three decades. This not only puts all of the events surrounding Jesus into a timeline, but makes Acts be a timeline for the New Testament. The church shared everything they had with one another, even selling property to have the church evenly distribute the funds. A godly model to imitate was Joseph a levite, whom sold a field and put the money at the feet of the apostles. This example of Christian fellowship, caused Joseph to be glorified with honor. Ananis and Sapphria saw Joseph being glorified, and out of envy, decided to cheaply imitate him. Peter rebukes the couple for lying to the Holy Spirit. He fulfills the role stated in Acts 1:8, of being a witness of God to the ends of the earth. The couple die after Peter acknowledges their sins, this is an act of the Holy Spirit and not the apostle Peter. For Peter knew of the sins of the couple because the Holy Spirit told him. The couple believed that the church’s communism was going too far, so they would be practical in their faith. Although, this was not their sin. For their sin was lying directly to the church, Peter, and the Holy Spirit. It didn’t matter where the money came from, but rather, it was an issue of the heart.
