Its operations include air medical and ambulance transport throughout Louisiana’s southern parishes. In regards to its air medical division, the company employs several helicopter pilots and EMS nurses to fulfill contractual needs. Furthermore, its pilots are a part of the local Air Ambulance union Chapter 45. In regards to the pilot in question, Barry Smith is a high-time helicopter pilot, with several F.A.A helicopter type ratings. Because of Acadiana Ambulance’s limited employee candidate pool in the area, pilots often are non-local, which forces alternative work schedules to take shape.
