MLK, also known as Martin Luther King Jr, is a man who strived for rights in the black culture, making him one of the figures leading to the Civil Rights Movement. MLK was born on January 6, 1929, and sadly, was assassinated on April 4, 1968. As an activist, he tried to give African American’s rights through nonviolence. He was inspired by Gandhi, which led him on the path of peaceful means, instead of violence. MLK had made one of the most memorable and greatest speeches in all of American history, which was the “I Have a Dream” speech. This specific speech took place on the steps of Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. The speech sought the end of racism in America. This was a daring act, as many of the citizens in America of that time held hostile intents on the black culture. Knowing this, MLK took a chance and delivered the speech that led to the Civil Rights Movement. “Faith is taking the first step even when you don't see the whole staircase,” he had said.
