One way it is shown that good will always prevail over evil is by the use of foil characters. In Macbeth, in Act V, scene viii, line 65, Macduff states, “The usurper’s cursed head. The time is free.” This quote is said after Macduff has killed Macbeth towards the very end of the play. He is talking about how he kills Macbeth in the end, by chopping off his head and defeating the evil in Scotland. This is important because it shows that good characters will be victorious over their opposites, those filled with evil.

In Act II, scene iv, lines 14-15, the text states, “A falcon, tow’ring in her pride of place, / Was by a mousing owl hawked at and killed.” In this, Macbeth is portrayed as the owl, a weaker and lesser animal that the mighty falcon. Still, the mousing owl is able to kill this falcon. Even though Macbeth is able to get away with the murder of King Duncan, it is not likely that his reign will last long.
