Her family was very close all throughout her life. She lived a very happy and active life surrounded by her family (“Jane”, Encyclopedia). The Austen’s were not rich but education and religious principles were very important to the family (“Jane Austen”). They were religious because her father was a rector of a parish (“Jane”, Encyclopedia). Jane Austen and her sister had very little schooling. When Jane Austen was ten years old she attended Abbey School in Reading (“Jane Austen”). During school she was taught etiquette and was trained in practical arts considered important for women during time (“Jane”). She had to leave school in 1786 because her father couldn’t pay the school’s tuition (“Jane Austen”). Her father died early while destroyed the family both emotionally and financially (“Jane Austen”). Jane Austen’s mother and daughters were dependent on her sons for assistance (“Jane Austen”). Three women in her life influenced Austen. Her aunt, Mrs. Jane Leign Perot, left a big impression on her because of her haughty, out-spoken, and self-righteous behavior (“Jane Austen”). They reside in Barton Park in the 1800s. Elinor is the oldest daughter and she is driven by logic and thinks through things unlike the rest of her family. Marianne is the middle sister but is considered the little sister in the book. She is very impulsive and driven by passion. Elinor is interested in Edward Ferrars, but they aren’t engaged. Marianne meets John Willoughby when she hurts herself while running down a muddy hill. Marianne and Willoughby are madly in love with each other. She has eyes for no one else. Elinor and Edward’s relationship is very quiet and put on hold. Willoughby is forced to leave on urgent business one day and Marianne is devastated. She is hysterical the whole day.
