As of right now Mars and Earth have very similar physical features. For example Mars has regular clouds, like the ones on Earth. Mars also has winds, volcanoes, and even almost the same length of day. Another physical feature that they share is that they both have ice caps on their poles. But many scientist think that long ago Mars was even more similar to Earth. They think that Mars might of had many water features, and a warmer and denser atmosphere.

People have been wondering why the planet is red and orange. The answer is because of the many different iron oxides, or rust that it is made up of. Mars has two different sections of the planet. There is the southern highlands, and the northern lowlands. On the North side of Mars are plains that are very similar to deserts. Scientist think that they were probably smoothed out by water or lava that had once existed on Mars. Mars has very similar volcanoes as on the Hawaiian Islands, the volcanoes on Mars are very chubby and long, they almost look like shields.
