Though a fictional character, fear flourished the mind of Macbeth, one of the main focal characters from the play, Macbeth, by William Shakespeare in the seventeenth century. Macbeth was ill-met with prophecy of him to become king of Scotland from the three witches, also of the play. Lady Macbeth, his wife, learned of this and accepted it as a fact, a certain reality. Once she was notified that King Duncan would be staying at their castle, she convinced and dragged Macbeth into her plan to kill King Duncan, so Macbeth could take his throne. However, Macbeth, reluctant to execute the plan, feared the guilt and the judgment that would follow after the crime. He expressed his fears to Lady Macbeth, and she insulted and downgraded him to be comparable to a woman: “Yet do I fear thy nature/It is too full of the milk of human kindness”(I. V. II). While Xue masked and used her fear as an inspirational source, Macbeth expressed his fear openly to Lady Macbeth, causing a negative outcome in his gender role and their relationship. Xue used her fear to overcome her obstacles, whilst Macbeth revealing his fear was his obstacle, reinforcing the idea that fear should be better off masked as a purpose for aspiration, instead of a sign of weakness. Is it not possible for overcoming your fears to reach the same desired results? Ever since childhood, people are taught to overcome their fears to free the chains strangling their emotions and to rid their Achilles’ heel. “Just overcome your fears” is the most common response regarding fear, and that verse is not at all flawed. Common phobias include nyctophobia, social phobia, acrophobia, and so on, and the decision for most people of society is to conquer these fears, which allows them to achieve a reliable solution. They are able to act freely because they contain no purpose to be fearful. These people could have alternatively made themselves, discussing social phobia as an example, look less embarrassing regarding how they present themselves, but through overcoming their fears, they, instead, ignore them and regain confidence for their pathway. This strategy is a contrast, yet on fair grounds, to the first, but as it is shown, I understand there is still success, and that is the desired
