Step 2 Although the article that I found relates more towards nurses, I used this research to compare it to what I see daily with the people that report to me. While at work the other day, I heard an all call come over the speakers that asked for all hands-on deck due to the abundance of patients and not enough nurses. This statement right here just shows how many people are patients in the hospital, but there are not enough nurses. To me, this is a huge factor into why people are not satisfied …show more content…
The need hierarchy theory states that motivation is a function of five basic needs: physiological, safety, love, esteem, and self-actualization (Kinicki & Fugate, 2018). Physiological is the most basic need. This is if you have enough food, water and air to survive. Safety is the need to be safe from physical and psychological harm (Kinicki & Fugate, 2018). Love is the desire to be loved and to love. This also includes needs for affection and belonging. Esteem is the need for reputation, prestige, and recognition from others. This is the need for self-confidence and strength. Lastly, is the self-actualization, which is the desire for self-fulfillment to become the best that one can become. These factors relate to the issue of job dissatisfaction. The current most pressing need will be met before the next need becomes the most powerful (Kinicki & Fugate, 2018). Relating this issue to the article first starts with the employee. Most people’s physiological need, the most basic need, is always met. They usually can get the basic needs at work (food, water, and air). When they have that need, safety becomes the next issue. First, I believe that involving employees in activities inside of work at out. Planning events like luncheons, breakfasts, retirement parties, and pot-lucks can help us to build a team full of teamwork and motivation to come in everyday and do their job. One of the things I started last week at work is called WOW Wednesday. On WOW Wednesday, we use WOW cards (cards that have thank you to employees) to thank specific people for going out of their way and doing a great job. By doing this, we are motivating the team to do more and show them that they are appreciate and rewarded for their hard work. Another issue that I would like to solve is employees being burnt out. No employee should be overworked. I do realize that there will be days that will be busier than others. On those days, we just must work together as a team to get the job done. By having step-by-step guides for employees so that they are not second guessing their work. These are going to be called Standard of Work. By having a Standard of Work, employees will not be second guessing themselves about their job responsibilities, and they will know what to say no to. These types of things are perfect for my personality. I love the organization (which relates to the Standard of Work) and I also love pleasing people, which relates to the WOW cards. Safety is something that is hard to fix,
