The Measure of Darkness Travelling has been a passion of mine ever since I was a child. The best memories of growing up are the many times my parents took my sisters and I on road trips to see the many wonders of the world. This is what got me interested in nature and how the world works. Of the many trips that our family took across the world, the most memorable was only a few short summers ago. In the summer of 2014, our family took a much needed trip across the Atlantic Ocean to Europe. I had never been before and neither had my sisters. However, our parents had; and were so influenced by their wonder and amazement of the European world and its cultures, decided to save …show more content…
That is one of the main points of the Gargantuan Theory: the universe is ever expanding and expanding faster each second of time. However, it is not expanding exponentially as it would have to be expanding ever-squared the speed of light. Which, in mathematical circles, is equal to the variable “c”. Anyway, as the universe expands, more and more stars are created and possibly more star systems where inhabitable planets may be. In the words of Alan Lightman, in his book The Accidental Universe, the amount of the universe that is seen currently can only be determined as that of the Observable Universe. Due to the speed of light as we know it, only a certain distance of space can be seen because light has already reached this far. The universe continues to grow but is unable to be seen because it still takes hundreds of thousands of years for the light of the stars created to reach the Earth. Currently, the lights seen in the night sky are stars that began to shine millions and billions of years ago (94-95). It is remarkable to think about the size of the observable universe since that only includes that which is shined upon by the light of the …show more content…
Suppose that the universe acts with another axis in play: time. The universe is ever growing, this is known. However, how it is doing so is not. Suppose that it is growing in time as well, with every second that is created a new version of the universe appears. Ever multiplying upon itself so that it is never exponentially growing, but is always growing faster than the time before because of the added time from the last moment. It is a rather bizarre idea but somehow makes a little bit of sense. Otherwise, how would the universe be able to keep expanding there was nothing beyond the emptiness beyond it. Time, distance, velocity and dark matter create an aspect of the universe that causes people to scratch their heads in thought and wonder at the sheer size of it all; the universe that is ever faster expanding and never letting up. No matter how much the scientific community may try, we may never be able to comprehend the enormity of the gargantuan
