Storing information is about retaining the information, so it can be recalled later when needed. This depends on two types of memory which are Short-Term Memory and Long-Term Memory. The Short Term Memory it is known as primary or active memory because it only lasts only up to thirty seconds. Most adults can store five to nine items in this type of memory. An example of short term memory would be when we are able to remember the license plate of a vehicle when driving by. They are several methods we can utilize when storing information in Short Term Memory. We could use Chunking this is grouping items in meaningful sequences or clusters (Kalat,2014). Amnesia, which is the loss of memory, they are two types of amnesia. Retrograde amnesia which the is difficulty in retrieving old memories and Anterograde amnesia is the difficulty to learn new information. When damage to the prefrontal cortex occurs which can result from stroke or head trauma or Korsakiff’s syndrome which is caused by a prolonged deficiency of vitamin B (Kalat,2010).
A common memory impairment is Alzheimer Disease, this conditions generally occurs in people of advanced age, this conditions is characterized by increasingly memory loss. Personally have experience with this disease, this is a painful illness, watching day by day how a loved one loses his memory. At least here in the United States, they have an exceptional care for patients that suffer from this illness, but in third word countries, this is much worse because they don’t receive the needed
