They act as a liaison between supervisees and the agencies. The National Association of social workers code of ethics embodies ethical guidelines to help ensure supervisor and supervisees are providing effective services as professions. Specifically, the NASW standard 3.01 d indicates, supervisors should evualate supervisees performance in a respectful manner (NASW, 2017). For example, during the informational interview Monique stated that as a supervisor her role includes overseeing supervisees and interns, as well as, guiding them as professions. Clinical supervision is a hierarchical relationship with one of its components being evaluative. In other words, while under clinical supervision, the supervisee is legally and ethically required to comply with the supervisor's directives. And, the supervisor is legally and ethically responsible for everything that takes place between the counselor-in-training and the client. It is a significant responsibility, commitment of time, and potential liability for any supervisor and I bill accordingly.…
What is a dual relationship? A dual relationship is when a counselor/therapist and their client have another relationship in addition to the professional client/therapist relationship. When boundaries are crossed in the counseling relationship it may result in ethical problems. There are several types of potential relationships such as: physical, social, financial and psychological.…
Professionals such as social workers (LCSW) or even a psychologist would ensure that the information provided to trainees is accurate as they work with individuals suffering from mental illnesses. As mentioned previously in the text, the skills acquired by working with this population is a perishable skill and those receiving the training would benefit much greater if it were taught from someone that has much more experience with serving those with mental illness. A 40-hour block of instruction is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to identifying all of the issues our officers may see in the field, and having a professional teach it would ensure that any questions posed would be answered…
I experience a triadic form of supervisions; I shared supervision with another student. During supervision, the other student and I would engage in role-playing. During role-plays, we would practice basic counseling skills and re-play sessions that occurred at our site. The doctoral student would intervene when necessary during role-plays or wait until the role-play was completed to provide suggestions and other feedback. There were times when the doctoral student role-played as a counselor and a client.…

Mr. Scott seeks consultation whenever he’s stuck between two options that both appear to be beneficial to the client. The counselor should be aware of areas they are less competent in as this could lead to issue in treatment. If a counselor is unaware of how to treat a specific patient they should seek advice from their supervisor. The counselor should be aware of Specific populations. Their approach to intern supervision is somewhat different. The clinical supervisor facilitates supervision both in a group and individually. The group supervision process occurs once per week and provides a platform to discuss cases and resolve outstanding issues. In most of these situations it is due to my personal beliefs on the situation that I feel uncomfortable. I have learned and established these values, with the help of various people in my life. There are several things I need to work on personally, in order to overcome and be able work through these situations should they arise in my counseling profession. Reactions…
Journal Reflection Who we are personally and professional are entwined together. Our personal life impacts our professional life and vice versa. As professional counselors, we have to find that balance with managing personal and professional boundaries and how our values and beliefs affect what we do professionally. The challenge of balancing life roles are essential in any career, as counselors we are asked to look honestly at ourselves and choose how we want to change. It is important that we are open, as we ask of our clients to be.…
Before the start of class… Before the start of this course, I had a vague understanding of what it meant to be a supervisor. My understanding of this role centered on the idea that as a supervisee, I would go to my supervisor and discuss a case. Sometimes, I would see my supervisors jot down notes, other times they would merely listen to the case being presented. There was never a constant in the way that any two supervisors would approach the supervisory role.…
