Ethics can take on many meanings depending on whom you speak with. However, when it comes to business ethics most would agree on a few standpoints. Such principles would consist of promoting values such as trust, good behavior, fairness, and/or kindness. (Businessdictionary.com, 2016) Take into account that each company will have a varying degree within their ethical standards, to which will fit their core values. Unfortunately, business ethics can present some confusion when adhering to these codes due to vagueness of what is asked of the employee. This can create blurry lines in what is considered right and wrong.

Yes, you read that correctly- Multi-Billion Dollars! Top executives rake in six-figure salaries while many of us barely pull in minimum wage. In the state of Indiana, that is $7.25 an hour. Additionally, many are unaware that this company is able to pay subminimum wage to disabled workers largely in part to a Federal Law passed in 1938. Section 14 (c) allows employers to obtain special minimum wage certificates from the Department of Labor granting them the right to pay disabled workers according to their abilities, with no bottom limit to the wage. A method used to calculate their hourly wage is with a “timed study”. These studies consist of timing disabled workers in tasks in relation to a nondisabled worker, repeating the process every six months for evaluation of salaries. A special formula designed by the government then determines what they consider appropriate pay for their labor. In 2009, it was shown that one of their stores in Pennsylvania was paying disabled workers only 22 cents an hour! (Schecter,
