Michelangelo’s figures had clear depictions of veins, wrinkles, muscles, and bones. Even though Michelangelo was a Catholic he was influenced and inspired by ancient Greek and Roman aspects of art. Working in and on the church for years put a strain on the relationship between him and the church because he was a simple man and he grew mad of the corruption in the church. To depict his unhappiness, he painted two sad and miserable looking self-portraits of himself that are hidden within the ceiling.
