Minamoto has been a long time popular figure in the Japanese history. In the Tale of Heike, Minamoto is known as the tragic hero of the story. Minamoto Yoshitsune is a brilliant tactician and strategist. He has won many battles for the Taira clan and his tale about his adventure with Benkei lived on even up to this day. The battle of Ichi no Tani is just one example of Minamoto Yoshitsune prowess in the battlefield. Yoshitsune himself became a favorite to the emperor, and this made Yoritomo jealous. What makes him a tragic hero is because this lead him to being hunted down by Yoritomo and this cause him to suicide. Despite all the victory that he gave to the Taira clan, Yoshitsune still being hunted down by its own brother out of pure jealousy. Yoshitsune tried to attempt to make a rebellion, but he failed to do so. The story of Yoshitsune can be used as a reminder to the Japanese people about the great life of Yoshitsune that has joy, betrayal, love and respect. The Tale of Heike is one of the greatest Japanese folklore that lived on through both written documents and word of mouth.
