This part of our research is important because we try to find out tahta which integration model is much more fit for the German society.
There are basically three types of integration model which are assimilation, melting pot and multiculturalism or cultural pluralism. First model argues that immigrants lost their original customs and practices, they shape their behavior according to the values and norms of majority. According to assimilationist approach immigrants subject to change their language, dress, lifestyle and cultural outlooks as part of integrating into a new social order.In this sense we can say that assimilation mdel does not exist for guest worker Turks who live in Germany.Başkurt(2009, p.87) …show more content…
In the light of these information, we can say that there is no distinct assimilation strategy for Turks. Second model is melting pot. Immigrants or other ethnic groups identity do not disappear in favour of those dominant among pre existing population, but rather they become blended to form new, leagueing together kind of culture. Hybrid forms of music, fashion, cuisine are examples of melting pot approach.When talking about melting polt, first country which came to mind is USA.Because of the historical background of this country, there is no only one dominant culture, but there are a lot of ethnic groups which come together.On the other hand, this is not the case for Germany.In Germany, ın spite of the fact that different cultures influence with each other, all are exist seperately. The third model is multiculturalism.In this model, ethnic cultures are exist separately, and they also participate in the larger society’s economic and political and social life. Multiculturalism also refers to state policies that encourage cultural ethnic groups to live in harmony with each other. Acoording to the news of Bild, high percentage of participants who join the survey which conducted by Europäischen Volkspartei are against the Turkey accesion of European Union.%86 of participant have negative responses about it.
There are several reasons why Germany do not want to see Turkey in the European Union.Barysch(2007, p,4) argues that reasons are Turkey’s possible negative impact upon Eu power balance and ability to move forward.
