A lot of modifying has occurred in between the ages, yet several ideas and tools have remained without much change, unlike marriage. “ Marriage, among them, was not so much a religious ceremony inculcating and requiring solemn vows of binding obligation, as a civil compact, instituted for purposes of mere present convenience or family aggrandizement” (The History and Philosophy of Marriage 81). One’s marriage could have incorporated love or passion, but generally, the principle of the relationship was for power, money, nonemotional purposes. It had no form in the social system, it had several meanings to its vows but never really inquired the feeling that they must have like today, marriage was passing a daughter off to create a family with someone who she may or may not know or even enjoy their presence. “ The style of marriage was not really important. Christianity did require monogamy, although the romans were highly aware and performing this way before it became “biblical”. “Christianity was profoundly influenced by its development within the Roman Empire” (Anne). Romans threw out the idea of monogamy into the civilization, but religions assisted into expanding that idea even further along. Today, Christians believe it is a sin to ignore the idea of being faithful to one another because if the bible.
