In all the films, it presents the casual wear that women and men used to wear. Casual wear today is much more relaxed than it was before. From these films, it can be seen that men wore a shirt and a suit ensemble while going out and through the entire day. For example, in Montreal by Night, men wore suits and women wore dresses to go to the carnival. Thus, it suggests that the majority of people who went out to explore the city looked polished and were privileged to live in better conditions. In contrast, prior to the new construction of the habitations de Jeanne-Mance exhibits the people of this town to wear rugged clothes as their houses had no electricity.
However, this style of dressing applies in À St-Henri le Cinq Septembre where the jobless man, from the family being filmed, wore a shirt and dress pants, even though he were to stay in the house.
