As humans, we do not know how our lives may turn out or even the people you might touch throughout the duration of life. The drama Hardball made in 2001 directed by Brian Robbins shows just that. In fact, Conor O’Neill being a white male middle age man who did not have any clue of the great works who would accomplish due to his past mischievous ways of making money. Furthermore, he is a gambler who got caught up with betting on games and in result would lost all of 6,000 of someone else’s money. Later he was held captive by men saying he had to repay all the money he owed them or else there would be consequences. Furthermore, he tried to pay it back with the help of a childhood friend that works for a company called Smyth and Stevens Security; but the only way he would be willing to give him the money was if he coached a little league baseball team in order to receive 500 dollars a week. The movie takes place in the inner city of Chicago at a field behind housing projects. According to Roger Ebert (2001), "Hardball" uses gambling just for motivation and atmosphere (p.1). The moral of this story is life may through you curves and it is up to you how you handle it. Hardball is an inspirational story that shows how a person’s past does not have to be your future. In fact, this is true for Coach Conor he made such a difference in the young Chicago boys life without any intention at all. This movie showed how different classes, race, and ethnicity came together as a team and prospered in many ways. They rose above the stereotypes that are within races today.
