Social organization is an important part of what makes up social identity because an individual’s groups are often a part of cultural identity. In the article For Many Latinos, Racial Identity Is More Culture Than Color by Mireya Navarro, Latinos are not defined by their physical traits, but rather their shared cultural traits and experiences. Many Latinos in the United States are not counted as being Latino because they feel conflicted about what box should be checked on consensus forms. This influences society because they are not being counted which makes the consensus inaccurate and the proper funding is not provided as it should. Other kinds of social organization can also affect an individual’s social identity. In the novel Reality Boy by A.S. King, Gerald Faust belongs to the special education class along with other misfits in the typical high school setting. Gerald is treated differently by the students in the normal classes even though he has no reason other than anger issues, to be in the SPED class. Social Organization affects an individual's role in society through certain qualities and behaviors associated with the
