Employers must follow all standards created by OSHA, if they are violated one employer may be citable. Employers are classified into one or more of four categories;
• The Creating Employer: this is when one employer violates a standard
• The Exposing Employer: the exposing employer created the violation
• The Correcting Employer: an employer who is responsible for correction a hazard
• The Controlling Employer: an employer who has authority over the worksite.
These four categories are all ways an employer can receive a citation when working, fortunately injuries can be avoided with the training, outreach, education and assistance OSHA provides. With that being said, accidents can and will happen, but it is our job to look at why and how accidents happen to help limit the number even more.
