Mental illness is a growing concern in the United States; the need for pediatric psychiatric care continues to raise, yet the availability to provide care cannot keep pace with this growing demand. Goals of integrated healthcare include: ensuring optimal outcomes; being cost effective; improving collaboration between specialties; reaching a wide population of clientele; and acting as both a patient and family-centered service. The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) aims to create a collaborative care system between the multiple facets of healthcare. The AACAP proposes a renovated model, identifying the necessary skills for successful collaboration (Table 1). This model emphasizes collaboration between the members working on a single patient’s case. This approach to healthcare would allow various healthcare workers to interact while providing top care for the patient, fulfilling the aforementioned goals. Figure 1 outlines the responsibilities that pediatricians and psychiatrists have within this integrated system. In order to improve access to psychiatric care at our institution we developed different models of collaborative model . Collaboration between behavioral health and pediatrician across the general and specialty clinics exist across the outpatient setting in general and specialty clinics and it was tailored to best fit that fit the needs of the patient and providers. As a part of proposed standards framework for the levels of the integrated healthcare
Care Romero and Reynolds in 2013 described six levels of integration. . We describe in this report our experience with the different level of integrated using that proposed framework.
