My instruction will use teaching techniques that will allow students to interact with one another. I have observed many great teachers. This passed year, I observed a sixth grade teacher. She used many beliefs of Perennialism. She believed she was the export and taught to intellect. By doing this her class was well structure. Her students were able to have class discussion. The teacher would began the discussion, but the students would guide the discussion. I was astonished by this because students would disagree and also understand the other’s point of view. No one’s feeling got hurt, and there was never an argument. I believe the teacher was a strong believer in Perennialism, but in some ways she was teaching the students by Essentialism. I believe both Perennialism and Essentialism are important in a classroom because it establishes structure for students, but also teaching them to be able to agree to disagree with their peers. The purpose of education for my student will be lead by the teacher, but also give them the abilities and opportunities to guide instruction. By teaching this during certain lessons, my students will become contributors to …show more content…
How it is lead is determined by the teacher. My students will learn by creating lesson plans that are lead by Progressivism, and Essentialism. I believe it is important to use both philosophies, because every outcome of a lesson is different. Therefore, can and should be lead depending on the outcome. In previous classes, I have created lesson plans. One lesson plan I created was the students were learning how to solve money word problems. The outcome was for students to demonstrate the ability to solve word problems involving dollars and coins. Creating a lesson based on this outcome, I would believe Essentialism would play a role in the beginning stages of learning this task. Money has been taught for years in the classroom. It is a subject that has not changed over decades. Teaching with instructional methods that have been used for years and have shown to be effective. They will continue to be by using previous knowledge and new techniques for the lesson. I will instruct my students by using proven techniques, but also stimulate the students by giving opportunity with activities. Referring back to the lesson plan, I allowed students to use the last word problem and turned my classroom into a store. The students first had to be instructed by the teaching technique of I do, we do. It is now the they do attempt. By having the students solve the last word problem themselves, I am able to create an assessment that felt like an
