There a quite a few movies that I think show ethnocentrism like, American Wedding, My Big Fat Greek Wedding and Avatar. I chose the movie "Lost in Translation" which is another one. What happened to these two people happens a lot when people travel to places where they don’t understand all its aspects and cultures. I believe these could have been handled in a non-ethnocentric manner by using the anthropological tools.
* They could have watched the people to learn about their culture and ways of living.
* They could have studied up on Japans culture before going by studying their ways of living, geographic traits, foods, and language.
* They could have asked questions of the locals to try to understand the culture.
* They could have tried to understand the culture. If they understood, they wouldn’t have made fun of it.
* They could have tried to participate in customs and traditions.
* They could of used better moral judgment and try to respect Japans culture and treat them “as good as” one’s
