Assignment #1: Personal Philosophy of Technology in Classrooms
I strive to create an inclusive, welcoming classroom that fosters learning and creativity for all students. I believe that in order to truly help prepare our students to be 21st century learners I must teach them how to handle and use technology in an effective way. I believe that as a 21st century teacher it is my duty to stay up to date not only with technology but with current teaching practices. My philosophy of integration of technology in education has stemmed from my personal experience with technology in the classroom. According to Koehler, there are three main components of teachers’ knowledge; content, pedagogy, and technology. Equally important to the model are the interactions between and among these bodies of knowledge, represented as PCK, TCK, TPK, and TPACK (Koehler & Mishra 2013). I believe that in order to be my best self I must have complete understanding of content, pedagogy and technology. But more then that I must be able to blend them in order to reach each of my students.
Content knowledge is my overall knowledge of the 4th grade curriculum. I take the time to research and stay up to date on what my 4th graders need to learn. Also, it’s important for me to have a strong grasp of my pedagogical knowledge, which is a teachers’ deep knowledge about the processes and practices or methods of teaching and learning (Koehler & Mishra 2013).
